For more than 60 years, GfG has been committed to protecting people, industrial facilities and the environment by developing and manufacturing gas detection systems. With an extensive range of portable gas detectors and fixed gas detection systems, GfG can supply you with a selection of products for many applications and industries. Our scope also includes on-site service and advanced training courses.
We are specialists for gas detection solutions, not generalists in safety. No one can be the best at everything, but if you focus on one thing, you can achieve excellence. We work hard to provide you with the best gas detection equipment available, so you can focus on your task without having to worry about the risks that gases can pose. Because of that we invest more heavily in research and development than any other company. Approximately 13% of our annual turnover is reinvested in basic research and the development of new sensors and devices.
This includes finding solutions for customers whose requirements are not met by “off the shelf” products. We take pride in our longstanding cooperation with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), for example. For many years now, they have put their trust in GfG’s portable devices, which we optimized to adapt to the Singaporean climate and fulfill the special requirements for integration into the SCDF communication network.
Carbon dioxide is versatile and produced by many processes such as combustion or fermentation. CO2 is toxic and displaces existing oxygen, especially near the ground, because it is heavier than air. These risks and its low warning effect (CO2 is odorless, tasteless and colorless) make a gas detection system for monitoring carbon dioxide an important part of the safety concept of many applications. The IR24 transmitter with its proven infrared measuring method is a reliable solution in combination with a controller from GfG.
Proven sensor technology
The rugged aluminum housing is protected against dust and water ingress (IP54). For selective CO2 monitoring, sensors with different measuring ranges such as 0 to 5 vol.% or 0 to 25 vol.% are offered depending on the requirements. The advantage of non-dispersive infrared technology (NDIR), besides its selectivity, is its insensitivity to other gases, sensor poisons and ambient conditions. While the proven measurement principle responds specifically to CO2, eliminating false alarms, the IR24’s electronics handle temperature compensation to ensure stable measurement results even when temperature influences fluctuate.
Communication and service
The IR24 transmits the measurement signal to a connected controller for evaluation, which also constantly monitors the transmitter’s operation. It is available in two versions: either with an output signal of 0.2-1 mA or with 4-20 mA. The cover plate on the front of the transmitter housing can be pushed to the side for maintenance; it is not necessary to open the transmitter housing. A calibration adapter is used to supply test gas for periodic function tests. Adjustment of the sensor can be performed on site by a single technician. Due to the long sensor life and low service demands, follow-up costs are low.
