Flame detectors are sensors designed to detect and respond to the presence of a flame or fire, allowing flame detection. Responses depend on the installation, but include sounding an alarm, deactivating a fuel line (such as a propane or a natural gas line), or activating fire suppression systems. Different applications call for different actions. In industrial furnaces, for instance, their role is to provide confirmation that the furnace is operating properly. A flame detector can often respond faster and more accurately than a smoke or heat detector due to the mechanisms it uses to detect the flame. Types of flame detectors The main types of flame detector are: Ultraviolet Near IR array Infrared Infrared thermal cameras UV/IR IR/IR flame detection IR3 flame detection Visible sensors Video Ionisation current flame detection Thermocouple flame detection
