Temperature control systems are instruments for controlling temperature. They use a setpoint and also a measured temperature. The controller takes an input from a temperature sensor. The output is connected to a control element such as a heater or fan. The goal is to control process temperature with minimal operator involvement. By comparing the actual temperature to the desired control temperature, or setpoint, an output can be made to a control element. The three types of temperature control systems An on-off temperature controller is the simplest form of control device. The output from the device is either on or off. A proportional temperature controller decreases the average power supplied to the heater as the temperature approaches setpoint. Also, they are designed to eliminate the cycling associated with on-off control. A third temperature controller type provides proportional with integral and derivative control. Thermal transfer media In industrial processes, temperatures have to be controlled exactly to ensure the required quality. Different thermal transfer media can be used to cool or heat: air, water, oil or mixtures of these substances. Process temperatures can be regulated on the basis of the flow values and with an intelligent solution. Things to look out for when specifying or procuring a temperature control system are highly dynamic temperature control systems to achieve rapid heat-up and cool-down, wide working temperature ranges, rapid compensation for exothermic and endothermic reactions. As well as powerful and reliable pumps and other components, sealed to contain unpleasant smells or vapours and a design that prevents condensation or ice build-up.
