The Optomax Basic range of liquid level switches are an analogue optics only solution designed to meet the demand of price sensitive, high volume OEM applications.
The miniature sensor is solid state, containing only an infra-red LED and phototransistor which are optically coupled by the tip when the sensor is in air. When the sensing tip is immersed in liquid, the infra-red light escapes making the phototransistor output change state. The sensor can detect the presence or absence of almost any liquid type, oil or water based.
Because the Optomax Basic range of liquid level switches only contains Optoelectronic components the customer is responsible for interfacing the sensor to their application with technical support from SST. OEM applications can be very price sensitive so by removing the circuit protection, voltage regulation, processing electronics and output stage, the sensor cost is significantly reduced. Available in 3 wire (common cathode/emitter) and 4 wire (galvanically isolated) configurations.
With housing options for internal or external sensor mounting and available in two chemically resistant housing materials, Polysulfone, the standard choice for most applications or Trogamid, which is typically used in food and beverage applications.
The Optomax Basic Range of liquid level switches are only sold in high volumes and have an minimum order quantity of 100 units.

The 316L stainless steel single point liquid level switch can operate up to 600 bar (8700 psi) with housing threads suitable for external sensor mounting and for use in operating temperature range -40 to 125°C.

The POS Glass Tip range of liquid level switches are robust and rugged, ideal for operation in harsh industrial environments, aggressive chemicals and extreme temperatures up to 140°C.
The POS Glass Tip sensor is solid state, combining an infra-red LED and phototransistor which are optically coupled by the tip when the sensor is in air. When the sensing tip is immersed in liquid, the infra-red light escapes making the output change state. The sensor can detect the presence or absence of almost any liquid type, oil or water based.
Options of N and P type outputs can sink or source up to 200mA at a supply voltage range from 12 to 28Vdc and can be configured to be a high or low signal in either a wet or dry state. The sensor is available with a M12 connector or 3 core cable and also has LED output indication.
The stainless steel body combined with a crystal glass sensing tip allows the POS Glass Tip range of liquid level switches to operate under high pressure conditions up to 80 bar and across two temperature ranges; Standard (-40 to 100°C) or Extended (-40 to 140ºC).

The Honeywell LLE Series Liquid Level Switches have a design similar to SST’s liquid level switches with the only significant difference being that the Honeywell versions have a dome-shaped tip instead of a conical one. They are used for the detection of liquid level or liquid leaks, and designed to drive digital inputs, LEDs, buzzers and indicator lamps.
Honeywell recently announced the obsolescence of their entire range of liquid level switches.
The Honeywell LLE Series liquid level switches use the same operating principle as the SST optical liquid level design, the only difference with the SST liquid level switches are the housings. The SST design has a conical tip rather than a domed one as this improves the overall reliability of the sensors. All thread sizes and other critical dimensions remain identical.
